Answer - "This is a stick-up. Give me the money. I always thought that a full stop, a question mark, an exclamation mark belong to the sentence therefore have to be placed before the quotation mark. Thanks here making it clear.
It's what I thought. This is my first post so it's good to get someone else to back up my own thinking!
Anything inside /essay-on-my-ambition-in-life-with-quotations.html quotation marks is a part of the quotation. But is it really so that in direct speech the speech marks stop is after the quotation mark. Not arguing, just asking. What is the difference?

Yet I still feel the full stop should be outside! But then that's the joy of language.
We have to be flexible in our thinking. Different punctuation for Brits and different for Americans??? That's definitely over my little head.
Is the sentence part of the quotation, as in example a? Or is the quotation part of the sentence, as in example b?
Most frequently, i have seen the stop within the quote, even when the quote is within the sentence.
